Leander Dorman
Leander Dorman with a bushy white beard is seated on the left; the younger man on the right is not identified. One of 2 photos. Written on the back of one: "Louis, Major's last work." Probably sent to Leander's grandson Louis Dorman Jr. in Fresno, California. On the back of the other: "Grandfather Dorman (driving "Major") (probably 1899)" Parentheses in original. From George Dorman collection.

Leander Dorman standing at the corner of his house.
Leander Dorman
His daughter Mabel Dorman Brett described her father as "tall, bald head, iron gray hair and beard, bright blue eyes, fair skin. Many times singing and humming as he worked. Sometimes feeling blue because of dull business." She must have been thinking of him at this period.
Leander Dorman
Leander Dorman 1825-1909 was a wheelwright and carriage maker, and prospered with a small factory in Buckfield, according to George R. Dorman. His business was hurt when the Studebaker brothers of Indiana got a subcontract to supply the Union Army in 1862 on a large scale. This image was a cabinet card copy of a tintype taken in the 1860s. Copy given to me by George R. Dorman early 1980s.
Leander Dorman and son Louis Benjamin
Leander Dorman 1825-1909 son of Benjamin Dorman and Hannah Davis, with son Louis Benjamin Dorman who was born in Feb 1866, so this tintype was probably taken in 1867. He and his wife Mary Louisa Hawkes had the one son and six daughters. Copy given me by George R. Dorman, son of the child pictured here.

NoteI need to research this more.
In the 1850 census she is listed under Horrace A and Ireene Barrows. I presumed this is their daughter.

She is also listed in the ancestry.com site as her parents being Daniel Bucknam Hawks and Mary Gower, Howerver her name is Mary L Barrowa.
www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/18886420/person/743617213
and her maiden name is listed a Hawkes on the Find as Grave website.

Her death record says her father was Daniel Buckman Hawkes and Mary Gower.
