Note	DENMARK - Franklin Arthur Bucknell, born July 5, 1933, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 27, 2009, at Bridgton Hospital. Oldest son of Mary Ridlon and Arthur Bucknell, Frank attended Denmark schools and graduated Denmark High School in 1951. After high school, Frank attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and graduated 1955, after which he served two years in the U.S. Army. Frank was employed by Eastern States/Agway from 1957 - 1966, at which time he moved back to Denmark and, with his brother Roger, purchased the family business, Bucknell Farm, from their father. A family-run business since 1930, Bucknell Farm was known famously for its fresh produce and, primarily, as a pick-your-own strawberry farm. Frank and Roger ran Bucknell Farm until 1999. After retiring from the strawberry business, Frank continued working in forestry and logging until the time of his death. Never wanting to have too much free time, Frank always had a large garden, sharing the wealth from it, and his maple syrup production, with family and friends. Frank's favorite place the was outdoors. He enjoyed camping and fishing and feeding deer, wild turkeys and birds in the winter. He was extremely detailed-oriented and enjoyed history. Many family vacations were spent camping and visiting historical sites and museums through the U.S. and Canada. After retiring from the Farm, Frank fulfilled a lifelong dream and made two separate trips to Alaska with his brother Richard. Though often stoic, Frank had a dry sense of humor and was a kind and generous person. He was a mentor to many, a faithful friend, honest and fair, and always willing to help others without recognition. Frank was a organ donor, so he will continue to give to others. Frank served with dedication on several committees in Denmark, as well as the Saco River Corridor Commission. He was a 50-year member of Meridian Splendor Lodge, AF & AM.

Note	Obituary: Roger Edward Bucknell, 88, passed away on April 29, 2024, at home with loved ones by his side. Son of Arthur and Mary Bucknell, Roger was born in Hiram, ME on August 20, 1935. He graduated from Potter Academy in 1954. After attending college at UMaine Orono, Roger joined the Army in April of 1959, was in the Reserves in 1961, then honorably discharged in 1964. One of Roger’s hobbies was bowling. He played for many years on several leagues, and even brought his future wife on their first date to a bowling alley. He married the love of his life, Betty, in 1971. Roger is best known in the community for his unsurmountable work ethic. Starting at a young age, he was working in the fields growing and selling vegetables at the family farm stand. In 1946, the family moved away from vegetables and focused primarily on strawberries. Roger, and his brother Frank, took over the Bucknell Farm- Pick Your Own Strawberry business in 1966 and continued till they retired in 1999. When not selling strawberries, Roger drove the school bus and harvested timber. If Roger was not at home, he would most likely be found in the woods cutting trees and chopping firewood for himself and family members. There are even stories of people stopping to take photos of his beautiful rows of stacked firewood. During the fire of 1947 in Brownfield, Roger was 12 years old and insisted on helping. However, his father would not allow him to fight fire due to being so young. They compromised and Roger helped at the fire rolling hose. When Roger returned from the Army, he joined the community fire department. For over 50 years, Roger volunteered his time to the Denmark Fire Department to help save others. Roger was an avid outdoorsman. From gardening, birdwatching, and collecting sap to make maple syrup, to hunting, fishing, and camping, he always had a great respect for the animals and making the most of what the land has to offer. Throughout Roger’s life, he held many jobs. But his most cherished titles were ‘Grampa’ and ‘Great Papa’. His love for his family is unmatchable. Roger was predeceased by his loving wife Betty, son Thomas Richardson, brother Frank Bucknell, sister Betty Hunt, and his mother and father. He leaves behind his daughter Katherine Lord (husband Gene Lord) of Denmark, ME, son Kenneth E Richardson (wife Susan Richardson) of Denmark, ME, three grandchildren Ryan Lord, Katelyn Callaghan both of Denmark, ME, and Kenneth G Richardson of Virginia. He also leaves two great granddaughters, Molly and Makenzie Callaghan of Denmark, ME.

She was born in Baldwin, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha Burnell Ridlon, She graduated from Potter Academy in 1930. For 35 years she and her late husband Arthur Bucknell, who died in 1971, owned and ran Bucknell Farm in Denmark. People came from all over to pick Bucknell strawberries. In 1966 they sold the farm to their sons. Mary was a member and longtime secretary of the Saco Valley Fish and Game, a member of Mount Moriah Chapter O.E.S., the Rebecahs, and the Denmark Extension. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, hooking rugs and especially hunting and fishing.
